Currency: The Moroccan Dirham (MAD) is the local currency. ATMs are widely available, but always carry some cash for smaller shops and markets. At the time of this writing, the exchange rate from MAD to USD is 1 MAD equals 0.11 USD. For Euros, 1 MAD equals 0.095 Euros.

Transportation: Trains are comfortable for long distances (e.g., Casablanca to Marrakech), while buses are more budget-friendly options. Taxis are common, but always negotiate fares beforehand. Many hotels and riads can arrange transportation to and from the airport for you.

• Stay Hydrated: Tap water isn’t always safe, especially outside of major cities. Stick to bottled water to avoid tummy issues. I like to carry a reusable bottle with a filter like this one (less trash!)

• Avoid Overpacking: Many medinas have narrow streets, and luggage with wheels can be difficult to maneuver over uneven surfaces. A backpack is a much easier way to go! • Guides Can Be Helpful: Official guides are licensed and have a badge from the Ministry of Tourism, but some unofficial ones may pressure you for money. If you opt for an unofficial guide, agree on fees upfront.
