When you need a book fix in the Queen City, head to one of Charlotte's locally-owned bookstores for quality reads while also supporting the community.

Right now it is so chilly, it seems like Spring will never arrive, but the warmer weather will be here before you know it. But until it arrives, you need a nice cozy place to spend an afternoon indoors, and will you find no better spot than one of Charlotte’s local bookstores.
Book Rack
Located on Johnston Road near Pineville, the Book Rack is a large bookstore that buys and sells used books. They have over 50k titles on their shelves just waiting for you to come and browse.
In addition to all the used books, they also have a small collection of brand new stuff, mostly bestsellers, that can be purchased as well. Expect to spend an hour or two if you want to look through all the sections.
Park Road Books
Head to the Park Road Shopping Center to find Park Road Books, a locally owned shop that has been slinging books since 1977. You won’t find any used books in this shop, but you may come across an author signing or even a monthly book club.
Local authors are sold on consignment, so you may even find something written by a neighbor or a coworker if you look hard enough. Park Road Books has a comfy seating area towards the back of the store where you can sit and enjoy a chapter or two before heading out to brave the cold once again.
Book Buyers
Book Buyers is a used bookstore in a shopping center off of Central Ave. They buy and sell your pre-loved copies of fiction and non-fiction books.
Be on the lookout for the kitties; the shop usually has a cat or two curled up in one of the chairs or lurking behind a bookcase. If you are allergic, you may not want to hang around inside too long!
Julia’s Cafe and Books
Attached to the Habitat for Humanity Restore on Wendover, you will find Julia’s Cafe & Books, where your purchase helps fundraise for the Charlotte chapter of Habitat. Grab a latte and browse the thousands of titles on the shelves. The books and the beans are local!
They even have a collection of rare books for sale, although they are priced considerably higher than the rest of the stock. If you are looking for a way to give back, Julia’s will help you host a book drive for the shop by providing the containers for transporting the books. All you have to do is find the book donors.

As you can see, there are plenty of places to snag your next read in Charlotte...and we didn't even get into the library! The Charmeck library system has over 20 branches in the county. So, even if you don't have the cash to spend, you can still find a good spot for cozying up with the latest and greatest novel.
