5 Places to Grab a Drink in Matthews, NC
Matthews is a quaint town on the outskirts of the Charlotte metro area that is bursting with charm...and places to grab a good cocktail.
NORTH CAROLINA
When it comes to drinking, The Queen City knows what she is about, but you don’t have to be inside the Charlotte city limits to find a quality cocktail or a locally brewed beer. Head to the Southeastern corner of the county to find the town of Matthews, but don’t let the word town fool you because even though this suburb gives off that small town vibe, it has plenty of places to grab a quality drink.
Jekyll and Hyde
Jekyll & Hyde is the taproom and grille with a split personality. Jekyll’s dining room is one part traditional English pub and one part Steampunk, and it serves freshly made dishes like fish n’ chips and bread pudding. Then you have Hyde’s bar full of metal art and rustic decor where you sample one of 50 beers on tap, most locally brewed, or imbibe with a specialty cocktail. I recommend the Blackberry Bramble made with tequila and fresh blackberries. Head over on Wednesdays for the ½ price bottle of wine specials.
Stumptown Station
Crowning itself "THE local neighborhood bar", Stumptown Station offers quality drinks, top-notch service, and live music on the weekends. Stumptown is crafting cocktails from locally or regionally made spirits, and they have lots of local beers on tap as well. They are even playing Team Trivia on Wednesday nights, and Thursdays are often a B1G1 cocktail situation. They do not have a food menu, so if you are wanting snacks, you better grab them somewhere else beforehand. If you like Reese's, try the Peanut Butter Old Fashioned.
The Loyalist Market
The Loyalist Market is an artisan cheese market that wants you to come hang out for a while, sip a glass or two of wine, and pair it with a fancy cheese you’ve never tried before. They offer over 60 different kinds of cheese, so no matter what kind of wine you are drinking, they have something to pair. They have special offers running often, including 1/2 off bottles of wine on Saturdays. Wine not your thing? They have a limited beer menu as well.
Seaboard
Seaboard is a brewery, taproom, wine bar, and pizza spot all in one. The 5-barrel brewhouse is the only brewery in Matthews, and they make everything from IPAs to stouts. The wine bar consists of over 1,000 bottles of wine that you can drink on site or take home for later. Seaboard has a large patio where you can relax with your beverage or enjoy a few snacks or a pie! They also have a monthly wine club if you want to make Seaboard a regular thing.
Carolina Beer Temple
Head to the Matthews craft beer bar, Carolina Beer Temple, to enjoy one of 18 rotating taps or various bottled beers. They specialize in stocking hard-to-find Carolina beers as well as specialty international brews. While they do have some wrapped sandwiches on site from a local caterer, they aren’t a restaurant. However, there are a couple of nearby restaurants that offer delivery to the temple, and plenty of take-out that you can bring with you.

We all know that "Charlotte' s Got A Lot", as you can clearly see, so does Matthews. (At least when it comes to spots for a quality drink.) This town is anything but sleepy!
